Single Cell Multiomics in Rare Disease Biology webinar received phenomenal interest from regional clinicians, researchers, and experts

MENA Medical Research hosted an exclusive scientific webinar on 20th September 2026 titled “From Genotype to Cellular Phenotype: Single Cell Multiomics in Rare Disease Biology.” The webinar was held in collaboration with AD-OMICS.
Over 250 regional clinicians, researchers, and genomics experts registered for the heavily attended webinar and benefited from learning how cutting-edge single cell multiomics technologies are accelerating precision medicine and rare disease diagnosis across the MENA region.
In his welcome address, Dr. Raza Hussain, Managing Director of MENA Medical Research briefed attendees on how MENA Medical Research is elevating and expanding the MENA region’s bioscience and medical research output on a global scale by empowering bioscience and medical researchers.
Prof. Khalid Al-Rasadi, Director of the Oman Genome Program, Professor of Biochemistry at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Consultant Lipidologist at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital presented novel data on the application of single-cell sequencing to investigate lysosomal acid lipase deficiency (LAL-D) within the Omani population.
“Rare inherited disorders have been studied for decades in whole tissue, where every cell type is averaged into a single signal and the cells that actually carry the disease are the ones that get averaged away”, stated Prof. Khalid during the presentation. “Reading a tissue one cell at a time alongside the plasma proteome, changes the question from what is wrong in this patient to which cells are wrong, and what they are doing. That is where the mechanism has been hiding, and it is now within reach.”
Talking about rare disease families, Prof. Khalid said “Rare disease families are experiments that no laboratory could design, and they deserve the best technology available not the technology that happens to be nearby. Bringing single-cell and proteomic platforms to the patients, through partnership between clinical teams, national genomic programmes and technology providers, is how a region builds its own evidence rather than importing it. And the lesson rarely stays rare: the pathways we uncover in a handful of families are the same pathways that shape common disease in the wider population”.
Ms. Meltem Ulusoy, Head of Business Development at AD-OMICS, briefed participants on the advanced single-cell and multi-omics technologies and research capabilities available at the AD-OMICS Lab in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
